Pupils, parents and teachers turned their schools red, white and blue to celebrate the Royal Wedding of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle.

Thomas Walling Primary Academy in Newcastle and Academy 360 in Sunderland showed their appreciation of the Royal couple with wedding themed days.

All staff and students at Academy 360 came to school dressed as if they were invited to the wedding of the year at Windsor Castle, with the school hall decked in the colours of the Union Jack.

‘Royal’ themed food such as Victoria sponge cake and Eton mess were on the lunch menu for hungry students.

Meanwhile at fellow Laidlaw Schools Trust academy Thomas Walling Primary, scores of parents joined their children on the main school field for a fun fair with inflatable castles, slides, candy floss and target football.

Red, white and blue bunting decorated the school grounds with youngsters singing the National Anthem after a Royal picnic with cakes and buns decorated with Harry and Meghan’s names.

Jonathan Booth, Year 6 Thomas Walling Primary teacher, said: “The Year 6 pupils have just finished their SATs so this is a party for them celebrating their hard work as well as for the entire school so they get a day of fun to celebrate the Royal Wedding.”
